Beneth Peters Jones
July 19, 1937 – February 2, 2019
Beneth Peters Jones, born July 19, 1937, in Albany, Oregon, passed from her earthly home on the campus of Bob Jones University where her life was lived since graduating in 1959, to her Heavenly home February 2, 2019.
Her life was given in ministry to her husband and family and to Christian education which included traveling the world for the edification of Christian women as a speaker at church conferences and at couples retreats conducted with her husband. By virtue of her role as “first lady” of Bob Jones University, her life took on a public role that included not only speaking but also, in what she felt most natural, writing. She was the author of twelve popular books for women. Writing and acting were her passions. Her leading roles in Christian film, Shakespeare, and drama were numerous and acclaimed, but she was most fulfilled in her quiet, behind-the-scenes ministry of counseling, of writing notes to those needing comfort and encouragement, and of prayer.
Her gifts were from God and given back into the hands of her Heavenly Father for His purposes and glory. Her life was not spent, but invested for the gospel of Jesus Christ Who was all in all to her. She faithfully and fervently loved her husband and family, her friends and colleagues; but she loved her Savior most of all.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Peters; a sister, Mrs. Dacia Melcher; and an infant son. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Bob Jones III of Greenville; a daughter Roxane (Dean) Robinson of Greer; two sons, Bob Jones IV of Washington, DC, and Stephen (Erin) Jones of Greenville; grandchildren, Joshua (Krista) Robinson of Altoona, Iowa; Emily (Brant) Bullister of Greenville; Edward (Christa) Robinson of Greer; and Katherine, Christian, and Campbell Jones of Greenville; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arden (Nancy) Peters of Chandler, Arizona; and a sister, Pat (Dwight) Bergstrom of Quincy, Washington.
