
Berlene Hutchens Murphy, 100, of Greenville, SC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 4, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymon Curtis Murphy. Born in Stilwell, OK, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Bertie Hutchens. She grew up on a farm in Prairie Grove, AK before attending Draughon’s Business College and moving to Washington D.C. to support the war effort during World War II. Upon her husband’s retirement they moved to Greenville, SC where she enjoyed serving her children, grandchildren, and dear church family at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter Linda Standridge of Altoona, PA; a son Steve Murphy and his wife Sue of Greenville, SC; a brother Bill Hutchens and his wife Verna of Springdale, AK; and a sister, Betty Colburn of Cane Hill, AK. In addition, five grandchildren, Melissa Shaffer, Matthew Standridge and wife Jessica, Amanda Ackley and husband Gene, Brooke Cagle and husband Clint, and Josh Murphy and wife Felicia; ten great grandchildren Dylan Shaffer, Peyton Shaffer, Jarron Standridge, Jannah Standridge, Eli Cagle, Nora Cagle, Collins Cagle, Luca Murphy, Isaac Murphy, and Emsley Murphy. In addition to her parents and husband preceding her in death are sister Bobbie Russel and brother Verle Hutchens.
A memorial and worship service will be held at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, January 10th with visitation immediately following. A private committal service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
