

Betty Jean Brock Mayer, 85, went to join her Mother and Father, Verna and Jesse Brock and sister, Dot, on June 25, 2012. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 65 years, Jack F. Mayer. Her life began in Birmingham, Alabama and after graduating with honors from Woodlawn High School she met and married Jack. They moved to Greenville in 1959 where she lovingly raised her children, enjoyed her passion for gardening and poetry, and spent many hours with her favorite West Highland White Terriers. Through her travels, she shared her love for growing things with various Garden Clubs and encouraged others to perfect their own skills while earning the title NGC Master Flower Show Judge Emeritus. Her loved ones remaining are Jack F. Mayer of the home; children, Dana Mayer of Tyron, NC; Doug Mayer (Julie) of Greenville, and her cherished grandchildren, Lindley, Brock, and Brantley. A Celebration of her life with family and friends will be held Friday, June 29, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the Harper Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville with visitation prior to the service in the Church Parlor from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon. Services will be conducted by Dr. Randolph Kowalski and Dr. Pam Cole. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Remembrances may be made to her church, First Presbyterian Church, 200 W.
