
He was born in Clovis, NM on April 7, 1932, the son of Herbert Nichols Hill and Elizabeth Pratt Hill. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, First Division, 7th Regiment, in Korea. He was a graduate of University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, B.A. 1958; University of Stockholm, Stockholm, Sweden, Certificate in International Relations, 1962; The American University, Washington, D.C. M.A., Government and Public Administration, 1966. He was employed by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Foreign Affairs Officer, Division of International Affairs, Head of East-West Affairs; served as the Energy Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, 1978-1986.
Billy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (Peggy), son John Andrew (Lyn Messinger), and grandchildren Vivienne, Julian and Silas.
After retiring in Greenville, Billy worked at Orvis, was a certified Orvis fly fishing guide, and worked parttime at Dewey’s Pawn Shop. Billy liked being outdoors, was an avid fly fisherman and an excellent pistol shot. He enjoyed shooting in CPSL at the Greenville Gun Club. Billy was a lifelong learner plus he enjoyed teaching. He taught several classes at Furman Learning in Retirement (now OLLI), including Fly Fishing, Modern Political Theory, The Four Apostles, and Paul and his Letters. He will be greatly missed.
Due to COVID there will only be a private family service.
