Bill was born August 26,1932, in Mathiston, Mississippi. His parents were Leonidas and Mary Lou Hunter.
Bill was a graduate of Mississippi College, where he played baseball and basketball. He then attended LSU. After college, he served in the US Army in Europe. After military service, he worked for the California Oil Company and Burroughs Corporation. He enjoyed a long career with LeFebure Corporation, a bank equipment company, in management, sales, and service.
Bill’s life centered on faith, family, and sports. He was deeply involved in the ministries of the various churches he attended over the years. He was a life-long Bible teacher, and was a sought after Sunday School teacher for all ages. He was an ordained deacon and served actively in many churches, including three mission churches he helped start.
Bill was an avid sportsman. He loved playing sports when he could, and watching when he couldn’t play. He was coach and referee for church teams across the years. He loved fishing. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Bill loved his family, and his life will always be a shining example to us all. He was man of integrity, true to his faith and his word. He loved freely and was quick to show mercy. He was always willing to help. Whatever he put his hand to, he would do it right and to the best of his ability.
He is survived by Marianne, his beloved wife of 62 years; his children David (Carol) Hunter, Kevin (Tammie) Hunter, and Carol (Kris) Strasser; his grandchildren Josh and A.J. Hunter, Wesley and Hunter Strasser, Lauren Hunter and Kellie (Kenny) Fletcher, great-grandchildren Rylan and Rowen. He is also survived by his sister Earlene Dent of Auburn, Alabama, and his nephew Rick Dent of Atlanta. He was predeceased by his eldest sister, Evelyn Hunter.
The service celebrating Bill’s life will be held Sunday, February 16, 2020, at 2 PM at Covenant United Methodist Church in Greer, SC. (1310 Old Spartanburg Road) Visitation will be at 1:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the the ministry of your choice.
