Bill was predeceased by his parents Zeb Vance and Blanche Lanier of High Point, North Carolina.
Bill is survived by his wife (Judy); sons Bradley Vance, Brian Edward (Mel), Bruce Alan (Sunshine); grandson Apollo Wolfersberger (Lilith); great grandson Asher; sister-in-laws Julie Deuink (Bill) and Karen Guest (Marvin); nephews Jordan Deuink (Ellen) and Joshua Deuink (Michelle) and three great nieces (Evie, Rylan, and Marilyn Deuink). In addition, he is survived by a number of cousins.
Born in High Point, North Carolina, Bill attended Brentwood Elementary School, High Point High School, and High Point College (now High Point University). Believing that the Lord was directing him to Christian service, he enrolled in Bob Jones University in 1960 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964 and a Master of Arts degree in 1966. In 1966 Bill became a part of the faculty of the ISC (Institute of Christian Service - School of Applied Studies) until 2002.
During many summers, Bill had the opportunity to travel with a Bob Jones University ensemble and mission teams to Canada, St. Kitts, and the Cayman Islands. Following his retirement from the classroom in 2002, he was afforded one of the most enjoyable retirement opportunities: the opportunity to travel with retired faculty and staff members and friends from Bob Jones University. By the time one trip was completed, he was beginning to plan a new travel opportunity for the retirees.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 1:00pm-1:50pm at Heritage Bible Church with a service to follow at 2:00pm. A private family interment will follow.
Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors of 4C at Prisma Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bob Jones University or Heritage Bible Church.
