Billy Royal Richardson

Mr. Billy Royal Richardson was born in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1939, and made the transition from his earthly home on Thursday, October 31, 2024. He was the youngest child of the late Mrs. Corine Ellis Richardson.

At an early age, Billy was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church where he remained an active member serving as a trustee, and teaching Bible Study and Sunday School.

Billy was educated in the public schools of Greenville County, and graduated from Sterling High School in 1957. He continued his education at Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French. later, he went on to receive a Master of Arts in Teaching MAT in English from Converse College,Spartanburg, South Carolina. During a career of over thirty years, he taught French and English in Aiken County and Greenville County, as well as at Greenville Technical College. Billy was also a United States Army veteran.

He was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., at Morris Brown College in 1959, and was a charter member of the Mu Pi Graduate Chapter in Greenville.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and devoted wife, Vivian Mosley Richardson.

Left to cherish fond memories are his son, Brian (Freda) Richardson, Sr., of Waxhaw, NC; his daughter, Stephanie Richardson of Fountain Inn, SC; four grandchildren, Brian Jr., Brooke, Bryson, and Ryland; his godson,Reverend Dr. Wayne Hopkins; three goddaughters, Daniette, Brittany, Telia Shell; one adopted son, Ricky (Angie) Oglesby; his sister/friend, Carmelita Hopkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation for Billy will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 400 S Hudson St, Greenville, SC 29601, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. A committal service will occur at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Rd, Piedmont, SC 29673.
