Bobby A. Gillespie, 81 of Taylors, SC passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2015. He was born in Laurens, SC to the late Archie McQueen and Laura Virginia Jacques Gillespie. Bobby was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them on holidays, especially Thanksgiving and other family gathering times. He worked for Pepsi for 38 years as a Service Manager before starting two building companies: Bilt Rite and Well-Bilt. He was a contractor and builder who was hands on. He called them SPECIAL custom built homes frequently with his own hands. Bobby is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Carolyn O. Boyd Gillespie whom he was married to for over 58 years. He is also survived by a son: Bobby Stan (Terri) Gillespie; a daughter: Dawn Gillespie Stancil and her husband Charles H. Stancil II; seven grandchildren: Matthew Daniel Gillespie, Joshua (Jessica) Stancil, Amber Stancil (Christian) Bastianelli, Zachary (Chelsea) Stancil, Bobby Destine Gillespie, Kayla Ivey and Jonathon Ivey; five great-grandchildren: Kaiden Gillespie, Jordan Gillespie, Sophia Stancil, Madelyn Stancil and Sarafina Stancil; two sisters: Havelyn Spake and Nancy (Roland) Lee; and a brother: Phil (Merri) Gillespie. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 3:00pm in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:45pm and entombment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice 1836 West Georgia Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Special words were said by family members about their father and grandfather. Here are a few remarks. Dawn said “My Dad was such a fighter through this whole ordeal.” Dad and I wished we could ‘Fly like Eagles’ and my Dad has his wings”. Zach said “Love you Pop cancer can never take what you left with us”. Jonathon said “Words can’t describe how much I’m going to miss this man looking up in the stands after a strike out and hearing him yell my name.” “He gave me inspiration like no other.” “…will miss you so much Papa”.
