Born August 26, 1960, in Buffalo, New York, Bruce was the son of the late Leo William O'Sullivan and Carolann O'Sullivan. He was raised in the Irish Catholic tradition.
Bruce is survived by his cherished wife, Janice O'Sullivan, with whom he would have celebrated 40 years of marriage in October; his sons, Liam O'Sullivan and his wife, Chelsie, and Neal O'Sullivan and his fiancée, Monique; his grandsons, Henry and Samuel; and his five older siblings, Brian, Kevin, Kerry, Kyle and Neal O'Sullivan. Bruce was the youngest of six children and is also survived by a large extended family.
Bruce earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from Penn State University and an MBA from the University at Buffalo. He spent his career in metallurgy, working his way from metallurgist to general manager and vice president. During his career with Carpenter Technology, he managed its specialty stainless steel plant in Hartsville, South Carolina, and later its titanium plant in Florida.
Bruce had many interests throughout his life, including cycling, hunting, playing guitar and flute, backpacking, baking, homebrewing, traveling and taking long morning walks. He had a particular love of history and was an avid birdwatcher. He had an unusual ability to perfectly mimic virtually any bird call he heard, helped by one of his lesser-known talents—an incredible ability to whistle.
Bruce was known for his sense of humor, storytelling, endless supply of fun facts and hospitality. He had a natural curiosity and enjoyed learning about a wide range of subjects and sharing what he learned with others.
Of all his accomplishments, Bruce was most proud of the family he and Janice raised together.
A funeral service honoring Bruce's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, South Carolina. Burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Following the services, family and friends are invited to a celebration of Bruce's life at Ji-Roz, 644 North Main Street, Unit 100, Greenville, South Carolina 29601.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Bruce's name to Conestee Nature Preserve, www.conesteepreserve.org, a place especially dear to him, where he spent many peaceful mornings walking, enjoying nature and watching birds.
