He was the youngest of six siblings born to Mildred and Otis Nanney of Farmville, North Carolina. He joined the US Army before he finished high school and served in Korea.
Carl married the love of his life, Peggy Tyson Nanney, in 1957. They had 2 children, Carla and Timothy.
While living in Goldsboro NC Jesus saved him and led him to move to Greenville SC at the age of 29 where he earned a degree in accounting from Bob Jones University.
In 1970 he fulfilled his lifelong dream and moved to Raleigh NC where he worked in the accounting department for Carolina Power & Light.
Never one to sit still, he founded Ideal Accounting & Tax Service and joined a partnership that owned the Biscuit Station Restaurant in downtown Raleigh.
Carl was active in his church, initially at First Free Will Baptist and later at Friendship Baptist Church in Raleigh, and at Faith Baptist Church in Taylors. Over the years he served as a Deacon, worked in Awana, and served on many Men for Missions trips. He was also active with The Gideons in both Raleigh and Greenville.
He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Peggy, parents, Otis and Mildred Nanney as well as 4 siblings Robert and Ray Nanney, Louis Sain, and Elizabeth Worthington.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Lee Nanney (Wendy) of Greenville SC, and daughter Carla Glenn Nanney of Newport News, VA, a sister Dot Winstead of Apex NC, 5 grandchildren Meredith Pflug (Chris), Taylor Nanney (Shauna), Travis Nanney, Kacey Smith (Robert) and Maggie Hagy (Logan) and 8 great grandchildren Sadie Mae Pflug, Addie Pflug, Macie Pflug, Jack Pflug, Graham Nanney, Charlee Nanney, Wells Davis Nanney, Beau Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Gables on Pelham for being a kind and loving family, and Agape Care for providing comfort and support.

Visitation will be Friday, June 7th from Noon until 1:00pm followed by the funeral at 1:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church 500 W Lee Rd, Taylors, SC 29687. The family will attend a private burial immediately after the service.
