He was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1946 and lived there most of his life. He is preceded by his mother and father, Dorothy Hipp Gunter and Cecil Guy Gunter Sr. He is survived by his son and daughter, Christopher Guy Gunter and Elizabeth Hipp "Betsy" Gunter as well as his two grandchildren, Calhoun Guy Gunter and Dorothy Anne Gunter.
