Charles David Wilson
June 28, 1960 – April 2, 2021
Charles David Wilson, 60, of Greenville walks the streets of gold!
Those knowing Charles understand completely since being led to Christ by his mother at the age of 12, Charles’ heavenly promotion on April 2, 2021 provided a new body full of vigor and free from earthly encumbrances.
Born June 28, 1960 to Clyde M. and Mary Ellen Davis Wilson, Charles spent the first 5 weeks of his life hospitalized. As a 4-year-old Charles was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and his early life consisted of braces and crutches until the crippling disease ultimately confined him to a wheelchair. Charles began running, jumping, throwing, and turning cartwheels as never before April 2, 2021.
Charles was predeceased in death by both parents and recently a beloved cousin, Connie McClain. He is survived by extended family and friends.
Because his condition disallowed him to move and enjoy the normal activities of a young man, Charles forged friendships with many people. Among those Charles knew he could reach in an instant were his physician, Dr. Lyn Hammond; Dr. Bill Crouch, Georgetown University; special helpers Pam Kunst and Bryan G. Riebe; Ben Couch, and his special friend, Dena Barnett .
Charles’ church memberships included Earle Street Baptist Church and Taylors First Baptist. He attended services and functions until the abilities to travel limited his efforts.
Graduated from J. L. Mann High School in 1981, Charles began a relationship with Georgetown University where he served as a Presidential Consultant to Dr. Bill Crouch with specific focus on fundraising. Having always had an interest in police, fire, and EMS work, Charles was recognized as an Honorary Member of the Glassy Mountain Fire Department.
Services are set for Friday, April 9 at 3PM in the Chapel of Taylors First Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Long and Pastor Jimmie Harley officiating. Private interment will be scheduled at a later date. Social distancing is to be observed and masks to be worn at the service.

Such great memories with Charles, I had the honor of meeting him at our assisted living , he was much younger than the residents there, I also had the honor of caring for his father and his aunt after they passed, we knew we had to move in as his family. And I knew the care that we needed to provide him was going to be different from what we were used to. He was so young at heart full of life, kept us in stitches, we were his peers while the other residents were in their 80s and 90s. This young man possessed a love for life, he fit into our family beautifully. He will be greatly missed, I regret not seeing him before he passed, but I know we will see each other again at some point. Love always Dr. D as he referred to me.
