He was lovingly known to his family and friends as Lil Daddy and Poppa, names that reflected the warmth, wisdom, and quiet strength he shared with everyone around him.
Born in Greenville County on April 4, 1949, he was the son of the late Henry David and Marie Turner Watson. Clyde was a 1967 graduate of Parker High School, a 1971 graduate of Clemson University and was a loyal Clemson fan. He retired from the mattress business after owning several stores in Greenville. He was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church.
Clyde had a deep love for the mountains and the river, often finding peace in their quiet beauty. Whether fishing by the water, cruising the open road on his motorcycle, or enjoying a sunny day at the beach, he cherished every moment spent with family. A true outdoorsman at heart, he also found joy in the thrill of a good golf game and had a special fondness for snakes, always eager to share his fascination with them. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandson, especially telling stories- each one filled with laughter, wonder, and a little bit of Poppa’s magic.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Frankie Heaton Watson; daughter, Julie Watson Wertz (Douglas), grandson, Davis Watson Wertz, all of Anderson; and two special spuds, Summer Hawkins Fowler and Ashley Watson Hurst of Greenville, and Howard Jones and Robert Jones of Greenville; as well as many beloved Watson cousins; and a special brother-in-law, Randall Ferguson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry David Watson, Jr.; and his best bud, Michael Christopher Watson.
A visitation for Clyde will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609, followed by a graveside service in the park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, Rainey Hospice House, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
