

Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of Kearn and Catherine Schemm. He served his country as a Marine before graduating from Nichols College in 1962 with a degree in Forestry. The following year, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Harding, and they were married more than 60 years. David delighted in his family and friends, and he particularly enjoyed his countless trips to Kiawah Island. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
David worked in the lumber industry his entire career and was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were his favorite activities while spending time with his family in his favorite place – outdoors.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth, and sons Steven (Angie) of Columbia, Keith (Suzanne) of Greenville, Kevin (Julia) of Greenville, and grandchildren, Gage, Will, Brooks, Reid, Anna Kate, Thomas, James, Grant, and his sister, Kathy Bahri. David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kearn Schemm Jr., and his grandson, Kasey Schemm.
A visitation for the family and friends of David will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607 at 2:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in David’s memory may be made to Meals on Wheels of Greenville, SC.
