

He was the son of the late Delphin Ansel Burdette, Sr. and the late Merle Adeena Long B. Copeland. He graduated from Taylors High School in 1953 where he played football and drove a school bus. He made many lifelong friends at school.
He started work at Southern Bell and soon went into business for himself. He lived and worked in the Taylors community all his life; and, worked to see the area thrive. He enjoyed what he did and it never felt like work. He met many people who remained good friends over the years. He operated several businesses on Main St.; Taylors for over fifty years. He built the first self storage facility in Greenville county. He also operated a towing service; car sales; had rental properties; built houses and pallet recycling. He donated land to build the Burdette branch of the Greenville Co. Library on Main St. He was also a supporter of the Christian Learning Centers of Greenville County.
Del loved his family and always enjoyed Sunday lunch at his Mother's' house. He was always ready for a get-together with family or friends.
He was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church and the Tyler-Shaw class.
He is survived by three daughters Pam, Dalene and Christy; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his long-time partner Carol Jolley.
Services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC 29609. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
