Doris Esther Holmes went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2016 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC. She was born on Easter Sunday in 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. She is survived by four sons, three daughter-in-laws, eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a son, two daughter-in-laws, and a brother. As a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church, she sang in the adult choir for many years and was under the leadership of the late pastor, Dr. David Yearick. She enjoyed many trips with the Power Company of Hampton Park Baptist church and sweet fellowship of the ladies of “The Birthday Club.” In her leisure time, Doris was also a writer of poems, quips, and stories. Here is one from her collection, dated August 26, 2011 – The Lord will see you thru, There’s only one thing to do! Just close your eyes and pray, He’ll carry you thru each day. Nothing could rob her of her love for her Lord, or the wit and humor to say what she wanted to get across to others. She loved to sing, “To God Be the Glory, great things He has done.” The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to BBN (Bible Broadcasting Network), PO Box 7300, Charlotte, NC, 28241. www.BBNradio.org
