Doris Bigham Mansfield

Doris Bigham Mansfield, age 95, of Taylors, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 17, 2023. She was born in Easley, SC to the late James Edward Bigham, Sr. and Roxie Vaughn Bigham.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years Harry Mansfield; daughter, Marie Carter (Ray); son, Ricky Mansfield (Susan); grandchildren: James Bennefield (Kacie), Laura Bennefield, Grace Durham (Randall), Lindsey Mansfield and Blake Mansfield (Miranda); great-grandchildren: Landon Harris, Kailee McIlhenney, Krysta Bennefield, Lainey Mansfield, Lucy Mansfield, Cyrus Mansfield, Samantha Durham and James Durham III; also numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

Doris Mansfield was a long-time contributor to Furman Athletes beginning in the late 1970’s when she was recruited by Dick Sheridan to support Furman football. Together with husband, Harry, she was one of the very first full-scholarship donors. Furthermore, she was the founder of the Furman Bowl -a -Thon, where she worked tirelessly each year to raise incredibly impactful sponsorship dollars for Furman Athletics. Beginning in the early 1990’s she served numerous terms on the Paladin Club Board of Directors and in 2011, was named Board Member Emerita. Mansfield served a two-year term as President of the Paladin Club Board of Directors, helping the Paladin Club set then-records for fundraising during both years. An incredibly dedicated volunteer for the formerly known Paladin Club, Doris consistently took responsibility for the most important roles, and always with smile. In 2008 Doris was honorarily inducted into the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame for her contributions to the scholarship program.

Doris was also an avid bowler, and joined her first league with her mother. She went on to coach youth bowlers and held the office of president for the Greenville Women’s Bowling Association. She was inducted into the GWBA Hall of Fame in 2001.

Doris was the first woman to be elected to the Board of Directors at the Bank of Travelers Rest in 1996.

A visitation for Doris will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

A committal service will occur Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
