Dylan Reed Everette, born August 23, 1994, will always be remembered as beautiful, vibrant and full of life. She had a beautiful soul and an unquenchable thirst for life. She always lit up a room. Her smile and laugh were infectious. She was feisty and outspoken and would befriend anyone without judgement. She made everyone feel special and listened to. No one who met Dylan ever forgot her. Dylan cared for others without judgement unconditionally, loving fully without any other motive. She loved her family fiercely, especially her twin brother, Dalton. There are not enough people like her in the world.
Dylan was also extremely strong and very brave. She fought hard against the disease of addiction and mental illness. She wanted nothing more than to be free from the turmoil and be "normal." She struggled for years and did well for a long time. Ultimately, the addiction won and Dylan lost her battle to an overdose on Monday August 6, 2018.
She would want her memory to save lives. She was always trying to help those who struggled and was very vocal about it. It infuriated her that addiction and mental illness carry such a heavy stigma of not being real diseases. It broke her heart that she had lost so many friends.
As Dylan wrote about a friend she lost to an overdose, "No one can ever describe what it's like not to have your friend anymore. To have them taken away is a hideous burden. They don't tell you how much you will miss their love. You realize your heart is a bit weaker than you'd want it to be. The exposure aches."
Dylan is survived by her mother, Michele Holland; her twin brother, Dalton Everette; her daughter, Francis Olivia DeVeaux Kurilla; and her grandparents, Genia and Ed Holland.
The family has set up a trust for her daughter, Francis Olivia DeVeaux Kurilla. Bank of America will accept donations on her behalf and it will be used for her future. For account information please contact [email protected].
