Eddie Eugene Bridges

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Eddie Eugene Bridges and survived by his mother Martha Jones Bridges. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Linda Wentworth Bridges and their children, Maxwell Reed and Lauren Ann Bridges. Also, his sister, Amy and her husband, Ray Smith; three nieces Halley, Mallory and Delaney Smith.

Gene spent his youth working with his father learning to be a great electrician and building the strongest of friendships which have lasted through time. Matriculating from the College of Charleston in 1991, Gene served in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1988-1993 as Staff Sargent. Through Officer Candidate School (OCS), he received a military commission in the USAR. There he served as a Signal Officer. He resigned his commission as a Captain to pursue a career in Electrical Contracting. He logged in a total of 14 years military service both enlisted and commissioned in the USAFR and the USAR. For the last 30 years, his primary scope of work was electrical installations for the telecommunications industry, cell tower ground builds and equipment upgrades working mostly with amazing friends at South Carolina Tel-Con.

Gene was a faithful member of Simpsonville First Baptist Church where he went on three mission trips to Alaska, one which he did with his son, Max, making it one of his favorite memories. He was a strong Christian who loved helping people everywhere.

He loved spending time with his wife and children travelling, especially skiing. He loved hunting anything that flew and loved spending quality time with friends. Gene was a people person who knew everyone and you would know if he liked you because he would give you the hardest time…teasing incessantly. One of a kind…no one like him. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Simpsonville, with the visitation to follow.
