Edmund Martin Braun, of Greenville, SC, and formerly of Rochester, NY and Urberach, Germany, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2018, at the age of 84 on his 57th wedding anniversary, in the comfort of his home, in the presence of his beloved wife, Georgine, and family members.
He was born in Urberach, Germany, on April 17, 1934, he was the son of Martin and Margaret Braun. In 1957, Ed, a toolmaker by trade, immigrated to Montreal, Canada in search of opportunity. In 1960, en route to Chicago, he stopped in Rochester, NY where, by chance, he met the love of his life and future wife, Georgine. There they made a home and raised their family. He was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company. Ed had many passions, interests and hobbies, the foremost being spending time and making memories with his family. He was an avid skier and 25 year member of the National Ski Patrol at Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua, NY. He was a photographer, with an in-home dark room, photographing everything from family holiday photos, weddings, team photos for the Irondequoit Soccer Club and inspiring landscape and golf course scenes. Ed was talented with the harmonica and provided his family with hours of entertainment during family road trips. He loved the game of soccer and took great pleasure in both coaching and watching his sons and grandchildren play. In retirement, Ed’s interest in golf reached new heights. He was a student of the game and spent many enjoyable times at Greystone Golf Club in Rochester and especially Fox Run Country Club outside Greenville, where he relished the friendship and camaraderie of the guys in the Senior Men’s Golf Association. He enjoyed travel with his wife and took many epic trips later in life. Ed took great pride in his German heritage and was a long time member of the German American Sports Club in Rochester. His love of German music, food and culture was shared with his children from a young age, and although separated by a great distance, he stayed close to his sisters in Germany and brother in western Canada. Ed had a kind-hearted and infectious personality. He loved to laugh and made friends wherever he went. The Shadow Moss community, his Greenville home, held a special place in his heart.
Surviving are, his wife of 57 years, Georgine (Reichart); daughter, Deborah Smith (Paul) of Greer, SC and sons: Eric Braun (Kristin), of East Aurora, NY, and Ralph Braun (Carrie)of Greer, SC; sisters: Marga Schrod and Karin Frank, both of Urberach, Germany; brother, Hans-Dieter of Calgary, Alberta CA sister-in-law, Annmarie Dondoerfer of Rochester, NY; granddaughters: Catie Schaaf (Carter), Muffy Smith, Hannah Braun, Janie Braun; grandson, Jack Braun. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the US, Canada and Germany.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday November 8, 2018 at 10AM St Mary Magdalene Catholic Church 2252 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Open Arms Hospice (http://www.openarmshospice.org/).
