Elizabeth "Betty" Watkins Bowen

Betty is survived by her son Derek Bowen(66) and his wife Dee of Greenville and her daughter Heidi Spires(53) and husband Michael of Greenville. Betty’s greatest blessings were her grandchildren Blake Bowen(34) (wife Skye) and Bowen Spires(9). She is predeceased by her husband MJ(2015) and sister Pat Rohrig(2020).

Betty was married to MJ for 58 years and she worked at Roane Barker in hospital supplies until they opened Printmasters, Inc. in 1971. After working in the printing business Betty started a new career as an Esthetician and opened the FacePlace until her retirement in 2017 to spend time with her family and grandchildren.

Betty was a member of Laurel Baptist Church for over 50 years and then Eastlan Baptist Church and then Upstate Church Haywood.

Betty loved Jesus and she showed it! She always had a smile and loved people and she had so many amazing friends. She and MJ were always hosting parties at home and at the lake, playing cards, going out to dinner and creating memories. To know Miss Betty was to love her! She was everyone’s second mom!

Betty was a mother, a wife, a listener, a friend, she was the one you knew would always be there, she was one call away, the hand to hold, the “I’m on the way right now”, she was the much needed hug, the assuring smile across the room, the calming touch, she was the one that “did” when no one else would.

In the latter years of her life Betty traveled the world with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson with whom she lived. She loved phone calls and visits with her “besties” which were her closest friends. Every morning she had her coffee and devotion then started her favorite job of “Grandma”.

The family is at the Spires Home, 4 Isbell Lane Greenville, SC 29607.

Betty’s service will be Friday, January 9, 2025 at Upstate Church Haywood, 2331 Laurens Rd. Greenville, SC 29607. Receiving friends will be from 2pm-3pm with the celebration of Betty at 3pm.
