Greenville, South Carolina
Evelyn Wolff Melder, 94, of Greenville, South Carolina, wife of the late Robert Wolff, Sr. and Andrew Melder passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Rolling Green Village.
Born in Bronx, New York, she was a daughter of the late Ernst and Ellie Ostendorff Woltmann. Our mom was a servant. She was always happiest being behind the scenes. She did not like being in the spotlight. As we grew up and went through the various stages of scouting, Mom was there behind the scenes as a Den Mother, as well as helping in fund raising events.
Mom was self-taught in many ways and was proud of her accomplishments, working her way to Administrator in the Department of Psychiatry at a major hospital in New York. She was well respected, once again having an influence from behind the scenes.
After retiring and moving to Florida she was active in her Church serving in the kitchen ministry.
She then moved to Greenville where she became a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Greenville. Once again serving in the kitchen ministry.
Do we see a theme in who she was!!!
Mom had several hobbies. She liked growing her plants, cooking, reading her books and her Daily Newspaper and doing her daily crossword puzzles. But what gave her the most enjoyment was doing her counted cross stitch. Her thoughtfulness in choosing the patterns and giving them as gifts gave her great satisfaction. Her talent was incredible. She was giving of herself to others.
Surviving are her two sons, Robert Wolff and wife Stephanie of Houston, Texas and Thomas Wolff and wife Diane of Simpsonville, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Nicole McGuffin and husband Todd of Houston Texas and Christopher Wolff of Houston Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Cheyenne McGuffin of Houston Texas.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 12:00 PM until 2:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive with a service to follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel. She will be laid to rest at a later date at Long Island Veterans Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
The service will be livestreamed on the Mackey Mortuary Facebook Page beginning at 2:45 PM. The link is posted below.
