Francis Marion Ashe, 92, of Greenville, S.C. passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012. Born on June 14, 1920 in the family's ancestral home in McConnells, S.C., he was the second of six children born to William Elias Ashe, Sr. and Macie Kirkpatrick Ashe. Marion grew up in McConnellsville and graduated from York High School in 1937. Afterwards, he attended Spartanburg Junior College where he earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II at Saipan, Tinian, Guam, the Philippines and Japan. After being discharged from the Navy, Mr. Ashe was employed in various roles associated with the farming, brokering and manufacturing of cotton in the upstate for over forty five years. He retired as a cotton broker with the I. L. Donkle Company located in Greenville, S.C. Marion was a long time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Greenville. He served two years as treasurer for his Sunday school class and also acted as a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels for many years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Lois Ashe Moore and Eliza Ashe Darby and his brothers William (Billy) Elias Ashe, Jr., James (Calvin) Ashe and Edwin Kirkpatrick Ashe. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Wilkerson Ashe of Greenville, his daughter Beverly Ashe Pierce and her son David (Kristen) Pierce of Charlotte, N.C., and other daughter Robin Ashe (Stephen) Flood and their children Shea, Quinton, Keely, Ian and Colin of Manasquan, N.J. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 6 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church at 1:00. Visitation for friends will be from 12:00 to 1:00. Interment will be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Hickory Grove, S.C.
