Fred Willard Jones
June 12, 1922 – June 1, 2019
Fred Willard Jones, 96, of Taylors, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2019. He was the son of the late Ben and Iness Jones.
Fred was a kind, loving, and patient man, with many family and friends describing him as the “best man they’ve ever known”. He had a genuine soul that loved the Lord and his family, and he was a great friend to those who knew him. As a young man, he served in the Army during WWII and was one of the men who, on June 7, 1944, stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight Nazi Germany on D-Day. In 2014, he revisited Normandy for the D-Day 70th Anniversary Celebration. He was a proud veteran, earning many medals including five bronze stars. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years of service, and was a member of Taylors Church of Christ.
Fred is survived by his children, Chris F. Jones (Sue) and Brenda E. Jones; his grandchildren, Jessica Arnold (Chris), Brittany Goddard (Nathan), Brandon Jones, and Rachel Jones; his great-grandchildren, Ella Arnold, Brooks Arnold, Carson Arnold, Nolan Goddard, and Hudson Goddard; and his brother, Bobby Jones.
He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn H. Jones; his sisters, Christine Sorgee and Lois Rushton; and his brothers, Roy Jones, Harold Jones, Gettys Jones, Mack Jones, Horace Jones, and Claude Jones.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8th at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:45 am prior to the service. A committal will follow the service at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Fred Willard Jones

Fred Jones was one of those great neighborhood Dads that always treated the neighborhood kids like his own kids Chris and Brenda. One particular memory was Mr. Jones planting a garden in his back yard and letting Chris's friends to help - Hard, smelly work, but fun too. May God grant Chris, Brenda, and the rest of Mr. Jones's family strength and love.

I have many memories of the Jones in their home and at church services. Mother and Dad thought a lot of him and Mother would talk to him about Fred’s families that she knew in her younger years in Arcadia. May God give the family peace and comfort in his love. Fred was truly a wonderful person to know and always had a smile.

Fred Willard Jones, God had a purpose for his life bringing him home safely after the Battle of Normandy. We are celebrating today the 75th anniversary of these heros who sacrificed so much and had their lives changed. I met Mr. Jones several times. He always had a smile and was a very observant gentleman. Chris told me many stories about his father. He became a hero of mine in whom I wanted to emulate. If Chris is anything like his dad, he was an excellent mentor to his son. We need more men like this to show the next generation how to love and honor God . He will be missed, but I would have loved to have seen his face when Jesus smiled and greeted him with open arms. Fred Willard Jones lived in humility and truly reflected his Saviour's love. Praise be to God for allowing us to have such a man touch our lives.

Fred was the most wonderful man we knew. He was so caring and sweet to everyone. He raised great children and his wife stood by him close and lovingly. God truly blessed his life and now his reward is in front of him. God bless the family...they know we love them. "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."
