George W Oestreich, Jr passed away Wednesday, August 29 in Greenville at the age of 101. He joins his wife of nearly 70 years, Frances Mikels Oestreich, and their son George Washington Oestreich III, in the arms of the Savior they served so long and so faithfully.
George was an army chaplain serving in WWII in the Pacific under the direction of General McArthur. He later returned to Japan and together with his wife founded Hamadera Bible Church.
George is loved and will be missed by his five daughters: Christine Milby (Jim), Jeannette Walker (Dale), Kathryn Oestreich, Marcia Lloyd (Tim), and Penny Melsom (Jeff, deceased); 19 grandchildren; and 32 great grands.
The family plans a private service in Greenville. There will be a final playing of “Taps”—a tribute to his years of cheerful trumpet playing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Remember, 2236 Ashley Crossing Dr, Charleston, SC 29414.
