Glenda Guthrie
April 6, 1944 – January 15, 2023

IN THE CARE OF
Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park
Glenda Kay Guthrie was taken home to be with her Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Glenda was born April 6, 1944, to Glen and Iris Hepburn and grew up in Sidell, Illinois, a small farming town where neighbors visit on the front porch and genuinely care for each other. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Guthrie, on May 31, 1964, and enjoyed a loving partnership with him for over 58 years. Upon graduation from Eastern Illinois University with a BS degree in English Education, she moved to Greenville, SC to teach English at Bob Jones University, where for over 50 years she invested her life encouraging students to speak well, write well, and serve their Creator. While teaching at BJU, she reared four sons to be committed to their families and love Jesus Christ, which, from her perspective, would be her greatest legacy.
She is survived by her husband, Gary, her four sons (Todd, Ted, Mark, and Jonathon), her 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild with another on the way. In her free time, Glenda loved playing Uno, Phase 10, and Rook with her grandchildren and close friends. The main purpose of her life was to glorify God and have her children and grandchildren walk with Jesus Christ. The viewing for Glenda will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 21 at Trinity Bible Church (Greer, SC) followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Glenda wished memorials be sent to Resourcing Christian Education international to support her son’s ministry in Uganda at the following link https://rceinternational.givingfuel.com/staff?staffId=41901
