He was the born on February 10,1967 in Griffin, Georgia to the late Jerry Campbell and the late Rose Campbell Hammond. A lifelong resident of the Greenville area, he attended Wade Hampton Elementary School, League Middle School, Wade Hampton High School, and Anderson College. Les was charismatic, highly intelligent and full of entrepreneurial spirit. He worked in sales with Pioneer Chemical Inc., the family business, for many years. His entrepreneurial ventures included Disc-Organized for cataloging CD’s, United Tire Care, Carolina Pops, which he helped start along with a close friend, and a goose repellant company. His final project was a screenplay that he spent years developing.
Above all, Les loved people and his greatest joy was helping others. His heart was always with those who needed a helping hand, whether it was helping others struggling with addiction, assisting his neighbors at Forest Lake, or encouraging and standing by family and friends. He had such a huge heart and everyone loved him. He was blessed with many lifelong friends that were a great support and encouragement to him from childhood on. Those who knew Les often described him simply as a good man.
Les loved to play the guitar and was quite the pool shark in his younger days. He loved music, and had an uncanny ability to recall almost any lyric, song title, or artist from the classic rock era at a moment’s notice. He also enjoyed working on his car, and taking walks with his beloved dog, Rocky.
Les is survived by his son, Connor Campbell (Kerri); two grandsons, Carson and Noah; his sister, Kelly Powell (Lee); a nephew, Austin Powell, (Savannah); a niece, Ashlynn Howard (Reid); a great nephew, Walker; and many wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank all of Les’s dear friends who so faithfully visited during the past months of his illness. He loved you all. Additionally, the family extends its sincere appreciation to the caregivers at Home Matters, especially Fran Davis, and to the Agape Hospice staff for their loving care.
Les’s life touched may people and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
