Harriett was born on March 16, 1943 in Laurens, South Carolina. She grew up in Greenville and graduated from Wade Hampton High School and continued her education at Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia. She moved with her first husband to New Jersey, where she raised her family. She attended Christine Valmy School of Esthetics and began her career in the beauty industry. She returned to South Carolina in 1994 and ran a successful beauty salon for many years until she retired.
Harriett dedicated her life to her family, friends, and to God and her beloved Lutheran church. Known for her southern charm, kindness and determination, she touched the lives of everyone she met. She loved gardening, backyard birding, caring for her cats and visiting new restaurants. Always dressed to the nines, Harriett was always particularly interested in style and fashion. In her final years, she discovered a love for true crime shows and spent many evenings watching Dateline with her daughter.
Harriett is survived by her three children; James Turner and his wife, Lynn, of Belton, SC; William “Britt” Turner of Hackettstown, NJ; and Leslie Turner Fisher and her husband, Andrew, of Tega Cay, SC, and their three children, Emily, Noah and Sarah.
She was preceded in death by second husband, Thaddeus “Ted” Kroplinski, her mother, Bernice McKinney, and her stepfather, Thurmond “T” McKinney.
