For 23 years, she devoted herself to Christ Church Episcopal School as a beloved seventh-grade science teacher, inspiring generations of students with her love of learning, steady encouragement, and deep commitment to education. Her influence reached far beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues, students, and families alike.
Deeply woven into the fabric of the Christ Church Episcopal community, Helen was recognized for her extraordinary dedication with the Marguerite Ramage Wyche Alumni Service Award, the Mary B. Roper Distinguished Teacher Award, and induction into the CCES Athletic Hall of Fame.
Helen embraced life with energy, grace, and enthusiasm. An avid athlete, she found great joy on the tennis court, where her competitive spirit and love of the game were always evident. She also treasured time spent at the beach with family and friends, finding peace and happiness by the water. Her love of the natural world was reflected in her involvement in rescuing sea turtles, a meaningful expression of the compassion and care she extended to all living things.
Helen was known for her kindness and generosity, especially in her lifelong devotion to animals. Over the years, she lovingly rescued and cared for many dogs and cats, each one a cherished companion. She will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to education and CCES, her vibrant spirit, and the warmth and compassion she shared so freely with both people and animals alike.
But perhaps most importantly, Helen was a true friend. She had a rare gift for listening with her whole heart, offering compassion, understanding, and steady presence to those who entrusted her with their joys, loves, and sorrows.
She was deeply loyal and unfailingly caring, never wavering in her support for the people she held dear, including many who may never have fully known the depth of her love for them. In both her quiet strength and her generous spirit, Helen reflected the very best of what we hope to be and what we continue to strive for in our own lives.
Helen is survived by her sister, Gay Wallace Peden, and her niece, Olivia Peden Baird. A graveside service will be held at Christ Church, 10 North Church Street Greenville, SC 29601 at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
