Hettie "Marcie" L. Bruce

Mrs. Hettie "Marcie" Lamar Sweat Bruce, age 81, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed peacefully from her life on God’s earth to her life with God in Heaven on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, as He needed her more and knew all would understand.

Born on January 11, 1944, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Izzy Lamar Sweat and Hettie Lucille Hendrix Sweat. She was lovingly raised in the home of her dearest aunt, the late Ellen Hendrix Brown, whom she adored.

Hettie retired from the Greenville County School District – Washington Center, where she affectionately and faithfully served children with intellectual disabilities.

She was preceded in death by her beloved only grandchild, Nicholas Marty Bruce, and her sister, Mary Lou Lozynski.

She is survived by her two sisters: Miriam Lacey of Bakersfield, CA, and Kathryn Barnett of Simpsonville, SC; her closest cousin, Jo Brown McAlister of Taylors, SC; and her two sons, Marty Lamar Bruce and Michael David Bruce, both of Greer, SC.

Hettie was a woman of deep faith, shown in the daily devotions she not only read but also reflected on and recorded in her journals for many years.

Per her wishes, there will be no formal services, as the family honors her desire for privacy.
