Born on December 11, 1938 in Pell City, Alabama, Hilda was one of eleven children born to the late James Ray Tucker and Velma Holbrook Tucker. She attended high school in Bonham, Texas, and later moved to Dallas, where she met the love of her life, James "Sid" Collier. Together, Hilda and Sid shared more than 50 wonderful years of marriage.
They welcomed two children, James Michael "Mike" Collier and Kerrie Collier Webb, and began raising their family in Greenville, Texas. The family later relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, where they spent the next 36 years as Sid pursued his career and they created countless cherished memories together.
After retiring, Hilda and Sid made their home in Collierville, Tennessee, where they remained until Sid's passing in 2014. Following his death, Hilda returned to Greenville, South Carolina, where she was warmly embraced by the residents of the Swansgate community.
Hilda never met a stranger. Family was always at the center of her life, and she loved being involved in her community. Whether leading her daughter's Girl Scout troop, participating in the Junior Palmetto Women's Club, bowling with friends, or enjoying a tennis match, she approached life with enthusiasm and energy.
Hilda and Sid shared a love of travel and were fortunate to explore many beautiful places together, including Hawaii, Alaska, and destinations around the world. Of all their adventures, the Greek Islands held a special place in their hearts. Yet Hilda found just as much joy in simple outings closer to home, including visits to the Carolina Coast and Blue Ridge Mountains.
Hilda retired from the Greenville County Library System. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Greenville, South Carolina, and during her years in Tennessee, she was an active member of Collierville United Methodist Church. Hilda also had a long affiliation with Community Concerts at Memorial Auditorium in Greenville.
In her later years, Hilda made her home at The Willows of Easley, where she was deeply loved and compassionately cared for. She was especially grateful for the friendships she formed there, including time spent with her dear friend of more than 60 years, Pam Weems. Their enduring friendship was a source of comfort, laughter, and companionship throughout the years.
Hilda is survived by her son, Mike Collier (Lisa) of Collierville, Tennessee; her daughter, Kerrie Webb (Jim) of Easley, South Carolina; and her beloved grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as "Mimi": Tiffany Benko-Webb (Alice), Krissy Sloan (Logan), Zack Collier, Tyler Collier, and Olivia Collier. She is also survived by several siblings and many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to The Willows of Easley (105 Willow Place, Easley, South Carolina 29640) in appreciation of the attentive and compassionate care Hilda received during her residency.
A private graveside service will be held at Graceland East Memorial Park, where Hilda will be laid to rest beside her beloved Sid.
