

In 1934 he and his parents moved to Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Bell Gardens High School and was drafted into the US Armed Forces. He served from 1952-1954. He met Martha Ann Raine in 1955 while attending Compton College. They married a year later in September of 1956. Jack and Martha celebrated 66 years of marriage a day and a half before he passed. He graduated from University of Southern California in 1960 as an Electrical Engineer. Through the years he was employed by U.S. Gypsum. The Wall Street Journal, The Hussman Media Group and finally The Greenville News Piedmont from which he retired in 1997.
Golf became his passion after retirement. He was a member of Carolina Golf Club at Botany Woods. He played there for many years and achieved his share of hole-in-one awards. The one thing he loved more than golf and work was his family and his heritage.
He was a proud member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. He loved to attend tribal events as much as he was physically able. He was known for his research and documentation of family/tribal history.
Although he was not born here he considered Greenville, South Carolina to be the finest place in the Country to live.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Martha; his three children Jon Dushane (Melissa), Anne Dobson and Jeanne Young (Rodney); seven grandsons Mark Dushane, Jeremy Dushane, Joshua Dushane, Matthew Dobson, Preston Dobson, Austin Sweat (Kelly), and Andrew Sweat and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and his son-in-law Greg Dobson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 8, 2022 at St Giles Presbyterian Church, 1021 Hudson Road, Greenville, SC with, a visitation starting at 1:15 pm. A private family committal service will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park.
