

Born in York County, SC on August 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Quay M. Whitesides, Sr. and Nannie McCarter Whitesides. He graduated from York High School and Clemson University in Engineering and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
During his working career, he was a Design Engineer with International Harvester Company in Richmond, Indiana and Memphis, Tennessee, Sr. Project Engineer with Lilliston Corporation in Albany, Georgia, and Vice President of Engineering with Kelley Manufacturing Company, and First Products Incorporated in Tifton, Georgia. He was granted ten U.S. Patents, primarily with peanut harvesting equipment and agricultural tillage implements.
Jack was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and former Chairman of the Georgia State Section. He was a former member of the Agricultural Engineering Advisory Committee at Clemson University and was one of one hundred to be honored with the Centennial Distinguished Alumni Award in the College of Agriculture Sciences.
Jack was married to Dorothy Virginia Wood Whitesides for 62 years before her death in 2020. When Dot fell ill during the last several years of her life, he remained steadfast in his commitment to care for her in sickness and in health.
He was a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Tifton, Georgia and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville and the Agape Sunday school class. He is survived by his children, Lee (Tracy) Whitesides of Tifton, Georgia, Linda (Tommy) Shadinger of Carrollton, Georgia and Karen (Brian) Burrell of Greenville; grandchildren Ches Whitesides, Clay (Lakin) Whitesides, Beck Shadinger, Anna (Casey) Sanders and Jack Shadinger; great grandchildren Carter Sanders, Bonnie Sanders, Bryn Whitesides and Sylvie Whitesides and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Quay M. Whitesides Jr. and sisters Margie Hall and Ann Good.
Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church Greenville with Rev. Dr. Richard Gibbons officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive Greenville, SC 29609.
