

Charles was born on March 9, 1945 in the Inglenook Community of Williamsburg County, South Carolina. He grew up as a farmer with a strong work ethic and resourceful hands. Charles was a member of The United States Army National Guard, Kingstree, S.C. Charles later made his career in sales and repairs. He loved his family and his church. Charles enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening.
He was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Northside Methodist Church in Greenville for 54 years serving various roles including Chairman of the Trustees. Prior to that, he was raised in Beulah Methodist Church of Kingstree.
Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Reeves Barrineau; his sister, Phyllis Barrineau Baker; and his sister-in-law, Gayle Reeves Naugler. He is also survived by his children, Sonya Barrineau Monts and Jacob Charles Barrineau Jr. (Leslie Stone), and by his grandchildren—Henry, Clara, Claire, Daniel, Reeves, and Miles. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry James and Maude Rodgers Barrineau of Kingstree, his in-laws Lamar Gardner and Elizabeth McDonald Reeves, his brother James Rodger Barrineau, and his son-in-law Thomas Olin Monts, III. He fondly remembered his grandparents and great-grandparents.

We are also grateful to the staff of VIA Health Partners Palliative and Hospice Care in Greenville, S.C., for their excellent care and support during the past month.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 10:00 am at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. Guests are invited to visit briefly with the family following the service. Charles will be laid to rest privately in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
