James (Jim) Murray Bailey of Greer went to be with the Lord on September 7th, 2021. Born in Charleston on the first of November 1953 to the late Mary Murray Bailey and Frederick A. Bailey III. Jim attended Clemson for his college education, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. It was at Clemson where he met his sweetheart and future wife, the former Kathryn (Kathy) Wooten.
After college he returned to Charleston to work in the family business, F.A. Bailey and Sons. He had a deep love for this work, and would later continue in that field, working as a project manager at the College of Charleston. He also served as President of the Charleston chapter of ASHRAE during his career. He and his family were active members of Pinecrest Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years.
He always looked forward to his weekly card game with friends that took place for 40+ years. However, his favorite pastime was fishing. Whether it be from the backyard of his childhood home, or fulfilling his dream of living on a lake and casting a line from his own dock, Jim was most happy with a rod and reel in his hand.
He felt so blessed to have his 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He cherished the annual family trip to Edisto Beach where he looked forward to time spent playing in the sand with grandchildren, swimming in the ocean with the children, fishing from the beach next to his grandson and son-in-law, or playing backgammon. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, always ready with a joke making the room laugh.
We will always cherish our memories and love he left us and praise God for the eternal home he is in now.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, his three children Shannon Cilli (Eric), Nicole Grantham (Matt) and Jimmy Bailey Jr (Laci Stout), grandchildren Logan and Katelyn Cilli, Bailey and William Grantham & his siblings Fran Fisher (Joe), Carol Leonard (Danny) and twin brother F.A. “Ricky” Bailey IV. He is predeceased by his parents Mary Bailey Harken and F.A. Bailey III and his step father Harold “Puddin” Harken. The family will be holding a celebration of life at a later date.
