Jan C. Younginer

He is survived by his daughter, Janna Y. Martin of Ballentine, SC; sisters Judy Younginer Liner of Columbia, SC and Jane Younginer Prewett of Greenwood, SC; brothers Joe Younginer (Carolyn) of Florence, SC and John Younginer, Jr. (LaL) of North Augusta, SC; niece Kay Liner Harris (Ben) of Pawleys Island, SC; Robert Liner III (Morgan) Greenville, SC; and other nieces and nephews.

He attended Wofford College and Lander University and received his master's from Appalachian State University. Throughout his career, he devoted himself to education. While teaching at North Greenville Junior College in the 1970’s he organized their tennis team that under his leadership won the national championship in Arizona that first year. He was honored with coach of the year.

He attended Buncombe Street Methodist Church and proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard. Jan was an avid sports fan who closely followed the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed virtually all sports, though he had a particular passion for track and field. He especially cherished his friends at Sportsclub in Greenville, affectionately referring to it as “the spa.” Known for his warm and friendly nature, he seemed to know nearly everyone there by name.

The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
