Jane, born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 29, 1938, was the only daughter of the late Forrest Lee and Eleanor Waters. A resident of Greenville since 1945, she graduated from GHS in 1956 and faithfully kept up with her classmates her entire life. After high school, Jane attended Emory University, returning to Greenville after marriage. She served her city as a Jaycee-ette for many years, including serving as president.
Jane met her beloved husband, the late Vance William Cline, Jr, on a blind date while Vance was playing football at Clemson; thus began her love for Vance and Clemson Football. They were married shortly after on June 21, 1958 at Buncombe Street Methodist Church. In addition to being the most loving and dedicated mother to their only son, Jane ran the medical practice of the late Dr. David P. Reese for over 30 years before his retirement. During these years, she also enjoyed judging and hosting contestants for the Miss South Carolina and Miss America Pageants.
Whatever Jane did, she did with all of her heart. She loved people and loved taking care of others, first and foremost, her two granddaughters on whom she hung the moon and spoiled royally. If you knew her, you knew her family, the thing of which she was most proud.
She loved in many selfless capacities. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels and United Ministries. She loved pretty things and decorations, and her 10 years volunteering at Ten Thousand Villages filled her with great joy. At the top of her list, she loved her choir, crafting Christmas angels, and her entire church family at St. Giles Presbyterian where she attended for the last 30 years. Her body took her away from participating in the things she loved, but never from her heart.
Jane is survived by her only son, Vance “Van” William Cline, III, daughter-in-law Beverly, and beloved granddaughters, Dr. Anna Cline Knorr (Dan) and Miss Emily Cline, both of Greenville. In addition, Jane also leaves behind a long list of lifelong friends and neighbors who meant the world to her and helped sustain and encourage her these last years.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2024 at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 1021 Hudson Road, Greenville, S.C. Reception and Visitation will follow at their home following the service from 12:00 - 4:00; directions will be available at the service.
