Beneath a brilliant, beautiful autumn sky on the first day of October 2026, my beloved Mother, Jean W. Frazier, took her last breath on earth and experienced her first breath in Heaven. Can you imagine the beauty when she opened her eyes in Heaven and saw her loved ones who left before her so long ago?
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ansel and Anne Williams. She was also predeceased by her son, Stephen D. Frazier.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon E. Frazier, of Greenville, S.C.
My Mother was many things in life: a corporate credit manager for many years, a gifted and talented musician who started piano lessons when she was only five years old, the steadfast rock in her family providing her love and care to so many in times of need, but most of all, she was a beloved Mother. Not just any Mother, but the kind of loving Mother that made you feel like you won the lottery but we realized the grand prize was our Mother. And she was a Mother to so many others in life when they needed a “Mom,” or “Miss Jean” as she was lovingly called throughout the years. And she did this all quietly and kindly behind the scenes without fanfare or attention.
She was the fun Mom who took her young teenage daughter and her best friend on a road trip so many years ago to a brand new destination called Six Flags over Georgia for a birthday trip and we rode the roller coaster until we couldn't see straight.
She was the sweet Mom who took her daughter and her same best friend to get our ears pierced when we turned sixteen years old.
She was the wise Mom who taught us how to treat everyone in life: with dignity, kindness, and respect and the healing power of forgiveness.
She was the kind Mom who delivered homemade Christmas Day and Sunday dinners to the sick and forgotten in life and made them feel like they were all that mattered in this world--because they WERE all that mattered in this world. And she made certain that their utilities were paid when they were going through catastrophic health struggles and their lives were turned upside down.
She was the courageous Mom with nerves of steel who taught her daughter how to drive in the local school parking lot on the weekends, while she was silently doing a lot of praying in the passenger seat.
And she was the beautiful, elegant Mom who made Saturdays a magical adventure at a new and beautiful McAlister Square, with her favorite store, Ivey's, and their shoe salon as part of her Saturday destination, ending with lunch at Morrison's Cafeteria and then a quick trip to Echol's Dress Shop.
How swiftly those days flew by in life and even though some of the later adventures were not quite as much fun during the aging process, my brave Mother still faced life's challenges with steadfast faith and determination. She knew that life was a mixed bag of beauty, heartache, joy, and pain for each of us at some point in life. But she never, ever wavered from her deep faith and resolve that God would see us through it all--and in the end, He did, with His promise to each of us -- to welcome us home to Heaven as He welcomed my beloved Mother.
Remember this--we arrive empty handed and we leave empty handed. The cemetery is where you understand the final equality of life; the powerful and the powerless all return to the same earth. Only your love and your kindness you gave to others will remain long after you are gone from this earth.
To remember my Mother, please take time to help someone else in this all-too-brief journey called life.
I love you, Mom; you were simply the best.
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Remembrance Chapel, 1901 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29609, on October 6, 2026 at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
