Jean was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and a woman of deep faith. A lifelong Baptist, she was a dedicated member of Bible Baptist Church in New Buffalo, MI, and later of Faith Baptist Church in Taylors, SC. Her love for her family, her home state of Michigan, and especially the shores of Lake Michigan, remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Jean had a lifelong passion for gardening, flowers, and sewing. She delighted in the simple joys of caring for her animals—chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, and especially her beloved horse, Doc. She was a beautiful example of a faithful, hardworking woman whose life was marked by devotion to her faith and family.
She is survived by her children: Barbara J. Roehl (Dwight), Karen L. Riddell (Robert), Julie K. Tillman (Jonathan), Douglas L. Gutschow (Tina), and Matthew J. Gutschow (Ashley); 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Don Bammann.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert G. Gutschow, her parents, and two brothers.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr., Greenville, SC 29609.
