Joanne Helen Batzig went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 3, 2014. Joanne was born in Philadelphia, PA and has lived in Greer, SC since 2001. Throughout her life, Joanne served the Lord as a Christian schoolteacher and as a tutor. Additionally, she served in a variety of capacities at the Reformed Bible Institute in Broomall, PA. Joanne was a senior scientist and chemist for the Institute of Scientific Information in Philadelphia. Joanne was an incredibly gifted and bright woman who used her gifts in so many ways throughout her life. Her husband Art, daughter, Nan, son, Nick, sister, Mary Warfel and her husband Jim Warfel (New Tripoli, PA) and brother, Michael Park (Milledgeville, Ga) survive Joanne together with three grandsons, Micah, Elijah and Judah, and granddaughter Brynn. Joanne and Art were married in 1970 in Elkins Park, PA. Her daughter, Nan Whitney, lives in Savannah, GA—together with her son-in-law, Rev. Pete Whitney and daughter Brynn. Joanne’s son, Rev. Nick Batzig lives in Richmond Hill, GA—together with his wife Anna and sons, Micah, Eli and Judah. Joanne had great joy in seeing and in supporting her husband, son and son-in-law serve in full-time pastoral ministry. Her family is a tribute to the grace of Jesus Christ, her Christian faith and example of extraordinary love. Joanne is now experiencing what Scripture declares about believers being in the presence of Christ: “Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51); “We shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2); “My eyes have seen Your salvation” (Luke 2:30) and “In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11). Joanne’s family praises God that she is alive together with the saints who have gone before her in the presence of Christ for all eternity. There will be a memorial service held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 at the Second Presbyterian Church (105 River St., Greenville, SC). Gifts and Contributions may be sent to Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary for “The Joanne Helen Batzig Fund” (P.O. Box 690, Taylors, SC).
