Johan was born April 26th, 1924 in Amsterdam, Netherlands to Anthonius Cornelis and Jacoba Maria (Ruiter) de Jong.
Johan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who spent his lifetime also devoted to the food service industry. He travelled for many years judging the military food service awards where he enjoyed many unique experiences. His many accomplishments leave a legacy: retired General Manager of The Poinsett Club, past president of the International Food Service Executive Association (IFSEA), Founder and past president of the SC Palmetto branch of IFSEA, Trustee for the Worthy Goal Foundation (IFSEA), past president of the Carolina Club Manager Association, member of the Club Managers of America, member of the American Culinary Federation, member of the American Academy of Chefs, and member of the Western Carolina Sailing Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jacoba O. DeJong, his children Harry de Jong, Johan De Jong, Catherine De Jong Gentry, and Charlene (Charli) De Jong, his grandchildren Johan M. DeJong, Gabriella Gentry, Samuel Gentry, his great grandchildren Pandora DeJong, Sigfried DeJong, father of Gabriella and Samuel Gentry, Steven Gentry and the family's dear friend Larry Medlin. He is pre-deceased by daughter Monica DeJong Valipour.
