Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late J.D. and Louise Welborn. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Fleming and his brother David Welborn. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pat Welborn; his son, Bobby Welborn (Melisa); his daughters, Rose Shockley (Todd), Dana Morrison (Jeff), Lea Ann Wilkinson, and Melissa Pace (Michael); his sisters, Robbie Badger (Hugh), Mary Barnwell (Lee), and Doris Pearce. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
A funeral service will be held at Mackey Mortuary on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 12:45 pm with a visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Cancer Society of Greenville.
