Johnny was born May 17, 1947 to the late John and Madelyn Compton Flynn. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1965, earned a BA from Furman University in 1969, and an MBA from the University of Georgia in 1971. He was a member of The Knights Eternal fraternity.
He was married to Phyllis Barnhill Flynn for 50 years.
Johnny spent his professional life in real estate, owning and managing multiple companies around the Greenville area over the course of his career. He also invested in and developed real estate independently, which he continued throughout his retirement.
He loved work and nature. He got the most joy from facilitating the happiness of others, especially his family and friends. He was honest and fair, respectful towards everyone he met, and never compromised his integrity.
He protected and provided for his family, and he died owing nothing to anyone.
Johnny is survived by his wife Phyllis, his sons John Marshall (Kelley) of Raleigh NC, Michael (Summer) of Saluda NC and Morgan (Martha) of Greenville, as well as his beloved grandchildren Ella, Lena, Tula, Archie, and Alex. He is also survived by many beloved friends, especially his JDO brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Furman University or First Baptist Church Greenville.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the Flynn family.
