Joseph Anthony Franks III

Born on December 19, 1938, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Joe was the son of Joseph Anthony Franks, Jr. and Theresa Cannella Franks. He was dearly loved by his siblings–Shirley, Jack, and Tonya.

After graduating from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, Joe returned to West Virginia, where he served as Vice President of West Virginia Plastics.

In 1967, he married the love of his life, Martha Angelette Shaw. She became his precious wife, best friend, and greatest earthly joy. Together they shared 58 wonderful years.

Joe, Martha, and their growing family moved back to Greenville in 1973. For the next 40 years, he thrived as a real estate broker and businessman. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of the community with his skill, integrity, and genuine care for others.

Throughout Joe’s life, one thing remained at the forefront – his unwavering love for Jesus Christ. His faith was not something he simply professed, but something he lived out daily. For more than 40 years, he served as a ruling elder of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church. He also served on numerous boards, including Piedmont Women’s Center and Miracle Hill Ministries. He could always be counted on to be the soft-spoken, humble voice of wisdom.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Shaw Franks; his sons, Joseph Anthony Franks IV (Laura) and John Michael Franks (Erin); his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Franks V (Schuyler), Ashlyn Franks Morefield (Matt), Callie Franks Hilson (Jacob), Andrew James Franks (Sarah), Anna Bray Franks, and Caleb Alexander Franks; and two great-grandsons, Joseph Anthony Franks VI and Christian James Franks.

Joe will be remembered as a kind and generous man who consistently placed others before himself, giving freely of his time, wisdom, and resources. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 22, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation immediately following at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, 207 Mitchell Rd. Greenville, SC 29615.
