He was born in Jellico, TN, attended the University of Tennessee, and spent his professional life in Jacksonville, FL, working for CSX Railroad. He was an active member of First Baptist Greenville, and a friend to many. He loved golf, travel, and exercise, but his true love was people, especially his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Mac, and is survived by his son Jim (Jill) and four grandchildren: Jordan Garris (Nathan), Joey, Robert, and Kelsey Fuson, and one great-grandson, Fuller Garris, whom he especially enjoyed. He is also survived by four sisters, Carolyn Cope (Wayne), Novella Phillips, Flo Martin (Luke), and Laura Martin (Stanley).
Joe’s funeral service will be held Friday, December 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Mackey Mortuary. Burial will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park 2206 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
Visitation will be held at Mackey Mortuary one hour prior to the service.
