John made an impression on everyone he met. He loved serving people in his work and through ministry at Taylors First Baptist, and there was not anyone that he considered a stranger. He had a passion for history and was a voracious reader.
John graduated from Carson-Newman College with a Bachelors in History and Political Science and during this time, he served in the Army for three years. While in the Army, he served in the Army Intelligence Services unit, served as a Military Policeman, and served as a Teletypewriter Interceptor while stationed in West Germany. He had an unparalleled love for his country.
John worked locally for Taylors Lumber Company, Suburban Paint, S&K Menswear, and Mackey Funerals & Cremations. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.
John is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Libby Thruston; his daughter, Amy Griffith and her husband Chance; his grandchildren, Keegan, Kaden, and Gracie Jill Griffith; and his sister, Susan Thruston Cone.
