

Joseph Raymon Wood finished his earthly journey on December 6, 2016. He was born on March 27, 1931 in Wilmington, North Carolina. While serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve, he came across a Gideon New Testament and responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ. From then on, he made it his life’s mission to tell everyone he met about his Savior. He attended Bob Jones University where he studied to be a pastor and met his beloved wife, Pauline Graham. They were married on August 19, 1951 and spent sixty-two years ministering together. He was the founding pastor of three churches--First Baptist Church in Philomath, Oregon; Calvary Baptist Church of Thornton, Colorado; and Prescott Heights Baptist Church in Prescott, Arizona. He also served as pastor at First Baptist Church in Duncan, Arizona; Tyler Street Baptist Church, Twin Falls, Idaho; and Ordway Baptist Church in Ordway, Colorado. He served for a short time as interim pastor at Shannon Baptist Church in Shannon, Illinois.
While living in Greenville, South Carolina he worked at WMUU radio station, Anchor Medical Aids, and served as a mission's representative for Hampton Park Baptist Church Missions.
Joe is survived by his sons, Joseph (Ruth) Wood II and David (Lori) Wood; grandsons, Joseph Wood III and Jeffrey Wood; granddaughters, Kaytlynn Kopp, Whitney Cole, Shannon Allen, and Hannah Wood. He was the proud great grandfather of four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Pecolia Marie Gaskins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William Jethro Wood and Emily Cook Wood; his wife, Pauline Graham Wood; sisters, Claudia Smith, Virginia Livingston, and Catherine Prince Long; and brothers, Thomas Wood and Frank Wood.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday December 13 at 1:00 p.m. at Mackey Mortuary in Greenville, South Carolina. A funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Mackey Mortuary, interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC.. A memorial service will be held in Muscatine, Iowa at Walnut Park Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 28 at 11:00 a.m. A memorial has been established in Joe's name.
