After attending Parker High School, Joyce met and married Air Force Airman, Richard Guthrie. The military took them to Phoenix for a few years, but after returning to Greenville, Joyce held a management position at Booth Electrosystems and Digital Corp. In 1973, she decided to give her heart to the Lord and quickly fell in love with being a part of church ministry, children's ministry, music and drama. In 1999, she and her husband became full time pastors of their own church, Faith Family Fellowship, until 2023. With a name that means joy, Joyce was exactly that. Whether she was offering a helping hand, fixing a warm meal or simply hugging your neck, everyone who encountered her felt her love.
Joyce was a dedicated wife to the love of her life, Richard Guthrie, who she was married to for 56 years. She was a loving mother and is survived by children Angela Johnson (Allan) of Greenville and Jason Guthrie (Jennifer) of Greenville; grandson, Tyler Benner and sister Kathy Center McCall (Tony). In addition, Joyce loved an endless number of friends and congregation members as her own family.
She was predeceased by her parents William "Bill" Edward Center, Sr. and Katherine "Kat" Morgan Center Barnett and her brother William "Ed" Edward Center, Jr.
Service for Joyce will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC 29609 on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of Joyce to Meals on Wheels in Greenville, SC or Agape Hospice in Greenville, SC.
