

Joyce Louise Sherwood Koons, 82, wife of Darell Koons, went home to be with her Savior on October 16, 2012 following an extended illness. Born in Dowagiac, Michigan, to Walter and Flossie Metz Sherwood. Joyce moved to Greenville, SC in 1955 where she and her husband began their long careers at Bob Jones University. Over the years, Joyce ministered in the BJU Child Development Center, Music Library, and the Maintenance Department. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and dedicated wife for over 58 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are her 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren: Sandy (Furman) Hendrix of Anderson and their children Laura (Todd) Leonard of Easley; Charlie (Sherri) Hendrix and their daughters, Taylor and Olivia of Belton; Daniel (Eleanor) Hendrix of Travelers Rest; Melissa (Joshua) Whitt and their children, Hope and Jordan of Williamston; Rebecca Hendrix and David Hendrix, also of Anderson; John (Renee) Koons of Gray Court, and their son Darell (Heather) Koons of Anderson; Shery (Jim) Borenstein and their children Sarah, Jennifer, and Joshua of Greenville; Susan (George) Fleck and their children Zachary and Zoey of Cumming, GA; Mark (Jennifer) Koons and their sons David, Chris, Joseph, Bradley of Greenville. Joyce is survived by one sister, Margaret Blighton and her husband Floyd of Woodruff, SC and a sister-in-law Doris Elston and her husband Harold of Marshall, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Joyce was a member of Trinity Bible Church, Greer, SC. She was a living example of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31:27-29, “She looketh well to the ways of her household,…her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.” The family especially appreciates the loving, gentle care showered on Joyce by all staff at Shepherd’s Care Assisted Living, Interim and Southern Care Hospice, and the nursing friends at Barge Memorial Hospital. Your labor of love has not been unnoticed by the Heavenly Father, nor by us. Thank you for everything. Funeral services will be conducted at Trinity Bible Church, Greer, SC on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 1:00 pm with visitation prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:00 pm.
