He was the son of the late Julius B. Aiken and Almeda C. Aiken. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina. Mr. Aiken was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School Class of 64; and graduated from the University of Georgia and later received his Masters Degree in Political Science; from Furman University. After graduating from UGA Buddy worked alongside his father, as his Paralegal. Buddy also served his country in the Army Reserves in the late 1960’s. He was also member of the Monaghan Lodge Ancient Free Masons.
Mr. Aiken was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church, for over thirty years, where he taught RA's, and coached youth basketball. Buddy was a loyal member of the congregation Christ.
Buddy was an avid golfer and enjoyed the sport and the camaraderie of his fellow golfers, in which he made many lifelong friendships. Buddy loved the outdoors, from snow skiing, trips to the beach with his family, to trout fishing. He also generously gave of his time volunteering his services as assistant to the Botany Woods SAIL Swim Team, working in records, officiating, and later for the Paladin Aquatics USA Swim Team in which he became a USS Swim official. Buddy was also a coach for baseball coaching his son Bates’s team for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hermine C. Aiken.
Surviving Mr. Aiken are his daughter, Lisa A. Boger (Christopher Kyle Boger) of Marietta, South Carolina, Julius Bates Aiken, III of Taylors, South Carolina, and his grandson Jasper O. Aiken, and granddaughter Kaylee Elizabeth Boger. He was the best "Papa Buddy" ever. Sisters Pamela R. Aiken from Huntersville North Carolina and Deborah K. Aiken, from Newland, North Carolina; as well as his loyal furry friend, Rivers.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Mackey Chapel. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
